Re: Dating the François Chosson Tarot?

Hi Michele comme ça va ?,

Joseph Chafard 1747 deck has same back.
Jean Payen 1743 deck also.
François Bourlion 1768 also

Backs are a good way to date but only an expert as let's say Depaulis could trace all decks (he is expert in TAJAN Paris auctioner and has a long experience).

Dear Michele,

Yes I was rahter busy but not with your Sacred Images that anyway I examinated carefully

I would say that I vote for backs rather than front of this pretty things.

To go back to... backs of cards, I still think that it is possible to date with this information. But it is a long work and it need to compile a lot of various decks from various €uropeen countrys minimum.
Personnaly I started to collect automaticly decks 's backs on a specific file of my computer. Just in case.

I laughed when I saw myself eating like..Hell but my Scorpio side agree with this idea. Miam

About Bourlion and Chafard, I planned to expose them in future but I need to get authorisations, build up web site and so on...

Patience :geek:

May be somebody has already some materials ?

That's really interesting information.

Chafard and Payen are both Tarot de Marseille I type decks, I don't know about Bourlion.

Is it unusual that Chosson has a back that we see popular in the mid 1700s? Does this add weight to his deck being from the 1700s?

Hello Robert,

François Bourlion acted as card maker from 1753 to 1770 in Marseille France. He has a son who followed his way.
 BnF web site for exemples of cards.

About Chosson, at this stage, I can't say that this precise back design automaticly connect him to this period: A backs design chronology is missing for the moment.

another job to do again... :(

Any Tarot fanatik interested for it :?:
